School Picture-Day Tips

I'm a neurotic mama on the morning of school picture day. I must whip out that fine-toothed comb every five minutes to slick down a stray flyaway. And you better believe, I think long and hard about what polo to put my son in and which dress my little lady will agree to wear. I just want to capture a moment in time; and my kiddos tend to cooperate more for a profesh photog than they do for their Instagram-lovin' mama. Thus far, I've gotten some phenomenal photos from picture day--but, honestly, the #photofails are almost as good (fodder for the feed, ha!). Two wonderful stories of immigration and diversity can be your travel companions in the car

This summer we mixed things up. We took a break from the kids watching videos in the backseat of our drives and opted for family audio books. Along our journey this summer, I've found two fantastic audio books for middle grade students (grades 4-9). Over the years, we've had mixed success with audio books. When the girls were quite young the Roald Dahl series of CD's was a huge hit. This set lasted us a few years. Then we went through the entire Harry Potter series (more than once). Gear Updates: All the Must-Haves, Upgrades, and Dreamy Wishes for the Next Season.

The dust is settling on the summer of 2019 adventures, and it's time to review my gear. Some of, thank goodness, is still great and will serve me well for another season or two. Some are at its last breath, and some needs replacing or upgrading. I already wrote a review of the boots I had this year, and will probably write another on another piece or two of my gear and clothing. But it's also time when I build my dream list of gear for the 2020 seasons of hiking and camping. A few pieces are must-buys, while some are in the category of "would be awesome to have."
